Shaan Yu is a young technical builder currently based in the United States, known for being selected for a Merge Grants award to develop an open source, modular, and autonomous research vessel engineered to travel long distances with remarkable efficiency—enabling rapid deployment and research from anywhere on Earth within hours. Before this, he built a reputation for hands-on robotics projects that demonstrated real-world autonomy and endurance. Shaan’s work consistently advances the practical frontiers of remote, self-sufficient technology in ocean science and exploration.
